Sydney getting worse at merging lanes

The Homebush Bay Drive area saw the greatest increase, with wow items a 56 percent rise in merging-related collisions over the past three years. Of all collisions in other areas, merging accidents accounted for on average seven percent of all claims.

Research conducted by NRMA also shows that almost 35 percent of NSW wow gold motorists are unfamiliar with the correct road rules when two lines of traffic are required to merge into one. A further 20 percent don't know the correct road rule moving from one lane to another in regular traffic.

The data and research follows an audit by NRMA Motoring and Services in March, which found 73 percent of 124 merging locations in Sydney to have incorrect, poorly-located or missing signage.

I used to travel on the M2 almost everyday in morning peak hour. The problem with traffic congestion seemed to come right down to the influx of cars merging into traffic. It ultimately brought traffic wow gold to a stand still. This was EVERYDAY. Upon speaking with a friend visiting Australia (he lives in Austria), he suggested extending merging lanes on all our motorways. I think it's a good idea. If people entering the motorway were given an extra km to merge into traffic (as opposted to say, 200m), it would be much better. Giving people plenty of time to merge in would reduce traffic congestion and reduce potential road accidents. It's just another example of how poor Australian roads are. I just returned from Thailand and, believe it or not, the roads there are better quality than here in Australia. Go figure.

Try getting anyone to merge properly in Brisbane - it ain't a happening thang. Seems that there is this mentality that "I have to be in FRONT of you", car speeds up, merging car is forced to brake as there is nowhere to go, car behind has no option but to brake and so it goes. Look at the traffic snarl that is caused at the Nudgee onramp any afternoon - goes on for miles. Great thing that we've got four extra lanes on the Gateway Bridge that feeds it! Broadening roads and digging tunnels isn't going to fix anything while there are idiots on the road.
