2010 College Football Preview gw2 gold 2x

2010 College Football PreviewSome of the best college football games I ever attended came during my college years. I did not go to one of those big name schools that everybody is familiar with. Instead I went to Shippensburg University, a Pennsylvania state school somewhere in the middle of nowhere near the Mason Dixon Line.Shippensburg was known for a few things that gave the town its charm I fell in love with. At the time the nation's number one Sheetz store was located at 359 East King Street, one of the more notable attractions on the way to the Shippensburg campus when traveling off of Interstate 81. There was the usual bar scene (Wibs for happy hour, Maxie's for $0.25 taco night, Hot Point for California gold rush wings etc.) and there was the late night runs to nearby Carlisle for a Wal-Mart run. In late August or early September there was the Corn Festival but Saturdays, to me, were about one thing. It was at Shippensburg that I grew to learn about the division two level of college football. No blimps, no ESPN Prue-game shows, no 90,000 tailgaters as I had grown accustomed to while growing up in and around Beaver Stadium a couple hours north on Saturdays. It took me some time but eventually I realized that division two football was a more pure version of the sport of college football than I had ever witnessed. The games still meant as much to those playing the game and for many who were watching the game. Just as Jason Donnelly had a passion for covering NAIA athletics, Eblen sought to provide a unique look at division two football guild wars 2 gold. We will get to Eblen's history with the website tomorrow, but for now I am fortunate to get his opinion on what division two football is all about and what will be going on this year. Who should new fans be paying attention to? Which team has the best chance to win it all? Who are some players to keep an eye on?Here is what Eblen has to say. Read through his opinions and then let me know what you think at the bottom with a comment.Q. Can you give us a broad overview of D2 football? What makes it different from CS football and D3?A. There are around 150 football teams in D2 with the highest concentration of teams in the eastern half of the country. Generally speaking, the best football at the D2 level is played in the Midwest and South. Grand Valley State, Northwest Missouri State, North Alabama and Valdosta State have combined to win 12 of the last 17 national championships, and are generally regarded as the top programs at this level.D2 teams are allowed to offer a maximum of 36 scholarships while D3 is non-scholarship and CS teams can offer 63. You will see some outstanding individual athletes at the D2 level due to the division having lower academic standards than D1. Overall though, D2 teams lack the roster depth that you see at the CS level.Q. Can you explain the process of selecting the playoff teams for the post season? Is it fair?A. The country is divided into four regions, with six teams selected for the playoffs from each region. Each region champion then advances to the semifinals. There is a computed strength of schedule and several other criteria that each regional committee uses in the selection and seeding of teams. One factor that makes the D2 playoffs unique is that there is no guarantee that every conference will be represented in the postseason. Every other level of small college football awards a playoff spot to each league champion, but not in D2.The playoff process has some inequalities in it for a couple of different reasons. First of all, the overall level of play in Super Region One (of which the PSAC is a part) is noticeably weaker than the other four regions. But Super Region One also has four conferences and nearly 50 teams while Super Region Four has just two official conferences and only around 30 teams.Q. The topic of realignment has taken the NCAA by storm lately. Does or will this hypothetical ripple effect trickle down to the D2? If so what changes can we expect to see?A. There is currently a moratorium in place which prevents D2 schools from moving to D1. Once that moratorium is lifted in 2011 there will probably be some movement, but the NCAA has made it much more prohibitive for D2 schools to move to D1 than it used to be. For a school to move to D1 in the future it will require a large application fee (from what I have heard somewhere in the neighborhood of $1 million) and require that a school be invited to an all-sports D1 conference before moving. That said, if there any schools that move from D2 to D1 in the near future, I feel that they most likely will be in the South. There are D1 conferences like the Southland that are in need of members and will likely invite or try to attract D2 schools. Rumor has it that the Gulf South Conference (of which North Alabama and Valdosta State are members) is likely to split, which may leave some programs in a position that they have to go D1 to survive gw2 gold.Q. Let talk about the 2010 season now. Who are some of the teams fans should be watching in 2010?A. Defending national champion Northwest Missouri State is a heavy favorite to repeat coming into the 2010 season. The Bearcats return just about every key offensive player from last year title team.Grand Valley State was the 2009 runner up but the Laker's will have a new head coach and must replace several key players, including three-year starting quarterback Brad Icier. But GVS has a tremendous amount of talent within its program and should be right back in the hunt by the end of the year.looks to once again be the class of Super Region One and the Vulcan's would love to finally break through and reach the national championship game after three straight semifinal losses. 2008 national champion Minnesota-Duluth, North Alabama, Abilene Christian, West Texas A and Nebraska-Omaha are some other teams that I feel are worth keeping an eye on this year.Q. And who are some of the players that are worth noting in 2010?A. Northwest Missouri State senior quarterback Blake Bolles and junior receiver Jake Soy hooked up for 27 touchdowns last season and they are two of the best players at their respective positions in D2.Minnesota-Duluth running back , West Liberty quarterback , Midwestern State quarterback Zack Eskridge and Mars Hill running back would be some of the other preseason favorites to win the Harlon Hill Trophy, D2 version of the Housman.Q. Which regular season game, or games, should be circled on the calendars of D2 and college football fans?A. Grand Valley State hosts West Texas A in a nationally televised season opener on September 2nd which will showcase two of the D2 strongest programs. Texas A will visit Northwest Missouri State, Abilene Christian will visit Central Washington in other season-opening non-conference games between teams that should be ranked. Most of the other top regular season games will come in the form of the traditional conference rivalries.Q. Care to share any predictions for the 2010 season?A. Northwest Missouri State will win its second straight national championship (and fourth overall) with Bearcat quarterback Blake Bolles winning the Harlon Hill Trophy. If NWMS can stay healthy and plug a couple of holes on defense, the 2010 Bearcats could go down in history as one of D2 best ever teams.Tomorrow Bob will explain his website in more detail as we learn how college football fans can better follow D2 football through the use of the Internet. For the latest college football discussion be sure to subscribe for updates via e-mail up above.
